Sold Wooden And Canvas Yurt-like Structure From The Magic Teapot - Somerset
Description
The Magic Teapot is an acoustic music and tea/coffee venue that has been touring festivals since 2017. Extremely popular on the festival circuit, the structure we have for sale here is the original "Magic Teapot". Built in 2016 / 2017, it had its first outings to Boomtown and Bestival in the summer of 2017, and since then, has toured the UK to some of the best festivals, big and small. The structure is a unique design that was conceived from the desire to have an all-weather fire-side venue. At the centre, there is a fire bowl which is raised 900mm off the ground. Therefore the ground beneath the fire remains unharmed, even when the fire is burning quite fiercely. Above the fire is a hood and a tall flue which draws the smoke out.
The circular structure has walls made of solid wood, each of which has an inbuilt bench, creating a very welcoming and sociable space. The roof is made of canvas panels. The structure can be built and packed down in a few hours by a team of 5 or 6 people. It is also suitable to be left up for long periods of time - it has been on a campsite in Somerset almost continuously since May this year (except for the week when it went to Glastonbury Festival).
Why are we selling?
We are selling our beloved structure because we have a new design that is easier for us to store and transport. Our workshop is bursting at the seams, and we would rather that it be of use to someone else, or adorn someone’s land, rather than sit and get dusty in the workshop.
What is included?
• the walls with their inbuilt benches
• fire place and flue
• canvas roof
• canvas window coverings
• all of the nuts and bolts required to hold it together
Specification:
• 12 walls, each wall 2m wide at the base. 3 doorways and 9 windows.
• Wall height: 2.8m at the highest point.
• Flue height: 5m
• Diameter: 8m
• Floor space: 49.5m2
• Walls are made of 40mm thick solid redwood sealed in three coats of high-spec water-based varnish.
• Fire place is made of mild steel, left to rust for its attractive patina.
• Roof is made of the same canvas as yurts and tipis, and is fire retardant. The roof is easily removed if the structure is to be left unused for any amount of time. This both preserves the canvas and also allows the grass inside to grow.
To buy the structure as is: £12,000.
While the wood and metal parts should last for decades, the canvas will need occasional repairs and to be replaced approximately every 10 to 12 years. Single panels can be replaced individually, as necessary, or all 12 at once. The current canvas roof still has many years of life left, but just so you know what to expect to pay, the current price for 12 new panels is £4000.
The walls don't really need revarnishing at the moment but if you did want this we could do a full bare bones disassemble, sand back and repaint / revarnish for £2000.
If you are a business, financing options to purchase the structure may be available.
